A pair of notable Formula 1 names are in the running for the purchase of Swedish auto maker Saab.
Bloomberg is reporting that the two bidders in question are Formula 1 head Bernie Ecclestone and Luxembourg-based investment company Genii Capital, which recently purchased a major stake in the Renault team. They will be in bidding competition with Spyker, a Dutch specialty sports car maker that competed in Formula 1 in 2007.
Genii recently confirmed that they, in conjunction with Ecclestone, are bidding to purchase the GM-owned Saab. Other reports have GM deciding to wind up operations with the Saab brand but are also open to other offers, with a GM spokesman stating:
“GM continues to receive and evaluate proposals for Saab. We consider any discussions to be confidential, and we won’t discuss any details until a decision is reached.”
