The 2010 NASCAR season is drawing near and the anticipation (and the fumes) are looming. Nonetheless, I do have some predictions to throw at you. And unlike our current president, you have the right to agree or disagree.
Having said that, here are my NASCAR predictions:
- The wing’s not the thing. The fans (and drivers) have spoken: bring back the spoiler. Whether that translates to more exciting racing is still in the hands of the jury. I think it will increase speeds, if anything else.
- Darrell Waltrip will have to wait to get inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This is by no means a slam on DW, but there’s others who are more deserving of induction this year. But there’s always 2011.
- Danica will be successful in the NASCAR circuit. While she’s no Jimmie Johnson, I do believe that she has the talent to make it at the Sprint Cup level. Just not this year.
- Someone not named Jimmie Johnson will win the 2010 Sprint Cup Championship. My money’s on Kyle Busch, although Tony Stewart will have to say something about this.
- Joey Logano is for real. He’s no one-trick pony, folks. What’s scary is that he’s not even old enough to drink and doing well on the senior circuit. He probably won’t make the Chase, but that’s OK as he has a bright future ahead.
- Most overrated driver: Robby Gordon. I am not sure how he gets the pub despite a decidedly underwhelming NASCAR career. At least he has off-road racing to make his mark.
- Most underrated driver: Matt Kenseth. 36 starts, 19 Top-10 finishes. That’s consistency, folks. Arguably the best driver few people talk about.
- Turn in your keys: Terry Labonte, Kyle Petty, Sterling Marlin, Michael Waltrip. I think it’s time for more deserving drivers from the Nationwide Series to get a shot at the big time. Besides, their ship has sailed.
- Dale, Jr. will make the Chase. Believe me when I tell you that Dale, Jr. is better than his 25th spot in the standings indicates. He has a better crew and better ownership which will translate to a better season than in 2009.
Do you agree? Disagree? Don’t hesitate to speak your piece.
