Sunday afternoon will find Russian GP2 driver Vitaly Petrov as the second driver for Renault.
Petrov was mentioned in connection with several teams during the winter and has long been known to have massive sponsorship from his home country. Despite the large bankroll he has tro work with, he isn’t your run-of-the-mill driver.
He first appeared in GP2 back in 2006 and has won at least one race in each of the past three years; in 2009, he finished second in the championship behind winner Nico Hulkenberg.
Tha announcement takes away any opportunity for Nick Heidfeld to grab the second Renault seat; as of this post, the only remaining seats belong to USF1 and Campos.
