Some news tidbits from the world of NASCAR:
- 24 — Laps Ryan Newman failed to complete in the Sprint Cup Series in 2009, when he completed 10,468 of the 10,492 laps run (99.8 percent). Newman and Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Tony Stewart tied for the series lead in laps completed.
117 — Laps Newman has failed to complete in the first two races of the 2010 season. Newman has begun his season with two DNFs (crash at Daytona, engine failure at Fontana) and has completed 74.5 percent of his laps (341 of 458).
- Fast food icon McDonald’s will kick off a multi-race sponsorship program with Earnhardt Gansassi Racing — primarily on Jamie McMurray’s No. 1 Chevrolet — for this weekend’s Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Additional aspects of the program, including the exact races and the sponsorship’s impact across EGR’s other platforms, which include Juan Montoya’s No. 42 Chevrolet, are still being finalized.
McDonald’s has been involved in NASCAR Cup racing — in fact, across a broad spectrum of motorsports programs — for decades. Its most notable programs were with legendary car owner Junior Johnson in the 1990s and owner/driver Bill Elliott later the same day.
