Nuts And Bolts

NASCAR

Just one news item from the world of NASCAR:

In 2005, Jimmie Johnson reeled off seven consecutive top-10 finishes to start the season. It has been 18 years since a driver has started the season with eight in a row (Terry Labonte in 1992).

Greg Biffle is inching closer; he took 10th at Martinsville, his sixth top-10 finish in a string that started in the Daytona 500 (third). Biffle’s average finish this season is 7.5 — three 10th-place finishes (Fontana, Las Vegas, Martinsville), one eighth-place finish (Atlanta), one fourth-place finish (Bristol) and the third-place finish at Daytona.

Who holds the record for the most consecutive top-10s to start a season? Morgan Shepherd, with 11 in 1990.
